A West Block wall replica is tested at the
University of Calgary seismic research facility

Public Works and Government Services Canada—in partnership with the Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures Canada Research Network and the universities of Calgary, Manitoba and Alberta—completed a leading-edge research on masonry and seismic reinforcement methodologies for heritage masonry walls. Their findings provided vital information to the West Block rehabilitation team so it can in turn ensure the buildings will better withstand seismic shocks, like tremors and earthquakes.
